My love for makeup began long before I ever considered turning it into a profession. As a little girl, I was fascinated by the way makeup could enhance someone’s natural beauty- not by changing who they were, but by helping them feel more confident in who they were already. The curiousity grew into a passion and I became the friend you would call to do your make up before a special event- wedding, gala or birthday celebration, I was there with brushes in hand.

As my appreciation for makeup evolved, so did my passion for skincare, which meant I was always in a large brim hat and looking to protect myself from the sun. Finding that it was challenging to find quality hats, ranging in styles and customization services, I founded THE HAT CHICK in 2022.

Working closely with clients taught me something that extends far beyond hats: true style is deeply personal. Whether its choosing the perfect hat or creating the perfect makeup look, the goal is always the same- to help each person feel like the very best version of themselves. This very philosophy inspired Beauty Beneath the Brim.

My approach to makeup is timeless, refined and intentional. I want you to feel your best, while people to notice you first- not your makeup. Every application is tailored to enhance your natural features while allowing your personality and confidence to shine through. My hope is that every client leaves my chair feeling confident, beautiful and completely themselves.

I am a native Houstonian, graduate of Memorial Highschool and fightin’ Texas Aggie, Class of 2000. I am married to my wonderful husband, Mike Sowers, who can often be found at our storefront “The Hat Chick” in the Heights. I have 2 fur babies who really are my children (no REALLY!) and a proud volunteer of Rescued Pets Movement.
